Crouching Lion is a hike located right past Kualoa Ranch in Kaawa. From town this is about 25 miles and 45 minutes away. The hike itself starts right on the road and parking can be scarce. However every time I have gone I have found street parking on the ocean side of the street, across the trailhead.  (The nearest street crossing is Kamehameha Highway and Trout Farm Road if you need to map that) Sometimes cars do get broken into when parked on the street but fortunately I have never had that experience.

The trail head itself is located between a "Do not cross sign" and a telephone pole. At first the trail is not super apparent due to the low trees and trees. But once on it, there is a very distinct path you can follow.

However once on the path the trail itself is very short. It takes between 20-40 minutes. This hike is tiring though due to the steep incline the entire way up.

After gaining elevation fast, the first plateau you arrive at is worth taking some photos. There is a beautiful view of Kahuana Bay as well as the valley. The hues of deep blue and green with take your breath away.

After taking a break some photo's at this first spot, continue on up the trail. In less than a minute you will arrive at a split in which you can go Left, down the trail to a closer view of the ocean, or Right to the highest peaks in the hike. Both paths are definitely worth it! This is the view from the Left path, that leads closer to the ocean.

Do not stand this close to the edge of the cliff. Watching my friend do this gave me a heart attack.

If you head up to the right at the split, the trail to the peak looks like this.

And once on the peak you get a new view of the valley and the ocean!

That tip of the mountain you see in the background closer to the ocean, is where the trail to the left leads.

Coming down the trail was a bit more tricky than going up. The incline and dry dirt makes it very slippery and easy to fall. So always be safe :)
